fOOd
the lizard winked lazily at the sun
soaked up in his dark skin
that matched the weathered corral fence
as if he hasn't moved in years.
an easy catch,
my stomach roared
as i pulled a long weed
and tied a loop at the top.
shade side of him I crept up
lowering my trap. He tensed,
and i dropped the loop over his head.
there was a sudden frenzied struggle
and then he was gone.
i shrugged with feigned annoyance
and headed for the shallow creek
to hunt for watercress, cilantro and
Miner's lettuce instead,
for my afternoon snack.
